Reiki Healing for Beginners
One of the holistic healing modalities gaining in popularity is Reiki. It’s an ancient Japanese technique that is used to heal physical and mental trauma, and to support mental clarity and spiritual well-being.
Reiki is based on a simple spiritual principle: We’re all guided by the same invisible life force, and it controls our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Rei means universal consciousness, and ki means life force energy.
While this may sound like woowoo to some, it’s great for alleviating physical pain, processing grief, uplifts your energy, increases motivation, and heals trauma. It’s a great compliment to other healing methods.
During a Reiki session, a practitioner channels life force energy through his or her hands unto another. It raises awareness in and around the physical body where negative thoughts and feelings are contained, and allows any stuck or stagnant energy (such as stress, anxiety, physical pain, sadness, confusion, etc.) to basically release itself.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently. Some people might say they experience otherworldly spiritual things, like seeing spirit guides. You might also feel parts of your body heat up and just have a general grounding feeling. It’s a deep form of relaxation similar to what you’d feel during a massage or acupuncture session.
Technically, you can’t do Reiki on yourself or anyone else until you’ve completed a Reiki level 1 training where a Reiki master will attune you with symbols and transfer Reiki energy to you. When you get attuned, you raise your vibration and your energy field changes.
However, anyone can learn to work with energy, and impact the flow of others. You can begin by putting one hand on your solar plexus, located right above your navel, and one on your heart, palms down, which is great for calming anxiety.
When you make this a daily part of your spiritual and self-care routine, even if it’s just 5-10 minutes each day, the energy grows stronger and you will become more familiar with how to use it as a healing modality for yourself.
