My Daily Natural Beauty Routine

Over the years, I have done so much damage to my skin that first started in middle school when my mom reluctantly agreed to allow my sisters and I to wear makeup after much begging and pleading.

As a little girl, I was obsessed with the pageantry of Miss America and the glamorous Vanna White. I thought that wearing dresses, perfect makeup and hair was the way a woman should look like.

Of course, the makeup that I was able to get my hands on at the age of 13 was of poor quality, cheap and loaded with chemicals. I didn’t think about that at that age. I was uninformed and wanted nothing more than to fit in with the rest of the girls that were beautifying themselves with makeup.

In the years that followed, my skin desperately tried to adapt to the new makeup I was experimenting with because I never committed to just one brand. I loved trying different makeup and was constantly looking for new products.

My skin changed dramatically, most of which I blamed on change of hormones, going through puberty into adolescence. And though I’m sure that contributed, the abuse from highly toxic products was also a big contributor.

As I got into my early twenties, I thought my skin problems would go away for good. I was way past the point of being a hormonal teenager, after all. However, the sin issues I was having persisted, and even got worse.

I tried various skincare products to try and resolve the issue, and continued to mask the problem with makeup. I felt embarrassed and my self-esteem plummeted. I feared leaving the house without makeup and became dependent on it.

During my thirties, I began to stumble across information that ultimately led me to more of a holistic natural path with my food, as well as my beauty products. I started to ditch the harsh products for gentler ones that had less toxins. The more info I read, the more clean my products became, and the more of a loyal brand user I became.

Now, approaching 40 years old, my beauty routine is ridiculously simple and I don’t wear any makeup. I have found so much freedom and liberation in going makeup-free. I had spent years in a co-dependent relationship with makeup so finally being free from it felt very empowering and gave me a major confidence boost.

When I begin my day, I start by splashing cold water on my face and I use a couple drops of an organic, non-toxic face oil blend from Ascended Health called Triple Skin Ointment. Sometimes I alternate with their I am Beautiful Regenerative Skin Oil.

These products are deeply nourishing, oxygenated oils designed to promote skin regeneration from the effects of exposure, aging, and sun damage. Their unique oil blend is also infused with resonant healing frequencies. I’m a big believer in the power of sound and the impact it can have on our health, in our food, water and the products we use.

I follow the oil application with a few sprays of my homemade rose water spray that includes high-grade colloidal silver for it’s amazing ability to fight bacteria and infection. Rose water is also anti-inflammatory, maintains the skin’s pH balance and is loaded with antioxidants. It also has the highest vibration (electronic frequency) of all the flowers and can drastically change the way you feel and act. Depending on the time of year, I will spray this throughout the day whenever my skin feels parched. Being in the desert, this can be quite often in the summer months!

For issues that do occasionally arise, I use my go-to Vitamin E ointment that includes aloe and wheat germ oil. That’s it - just those three ingredients! It’s been a long-time favorite of mine, and family and friends have since become addicted to this magical ointment. I use it on dry patches, lips, or for healing scrapes, scars and wounds. I also dab some around my eyes and fine lines to stay naturally youthful.

In the evening before bed, I wash my face in filtered water using organic sesame oil. I dab some of the Triple Skin Oil around my eyes and other areas that need special attention and again, finish with rose water spray.

For my body, I oil down after dry brushing with Ayurvedic blend oils from Banyan Botanicals. The season determines which blend I use. In the summer months, I use their Pitta massage oil. I rub that on my body starting from my feet working my way up to the heart, then finish working the oil from my neck and shoulders down to my heart. I let that sit on my body for about 10-15 minutes (usually enough time for me to do some planks on the bathroom floor for some daily core work), and then I hop in the shower.

I don’t spend a lot of time in shower, being careful not to waste water, and to avoid drying out my skin I use lukewarm filtered water. I finish the last 30 seconds with a blast of cold water. I use non-toxic, organic soap to wash important areas but the oil is very cleansing so that takes care of the rest of my body.

In the drier months, I use my Blue Moon Beauty Balm that I created based on one of my May Lindstrom favorites, The Blue Cocoon. I’ll use it on specific areas that need it, or all over for extra moisture, but the oils I use prior to showering is usually good enough to last throughout the day.

Making my own oil blends and body balms is fun and though it can be time consuming, it is so worth the effort. Young Living oils and other supplies make it super easy to replicate some of my favorites and is less expensive than buying the luxury brands.
